Letterpress printing is a traditional form of relief printmaking. A specialized machine transfers ink to a printing plate, and uses pressure to transfer the ink onto each individually-fed sheet of paper, creating a series of identical prints.
Ink
We mix our ink by hand, ensuring a precise match to Pantone Uncoated Solid spot colors.
Paper
Different thicknesses and textures of papers provide a variety of effects when used in letterpress printing. We often use thick, soft paper, which allows for richness of color and impression from the plates.
Plate
In addition to our library of wood and metal typefaces, we use polymer plates made from digital artwork for unique and high-quality prints. Each color of a print requires a separate plate.
Press
The machine prints one color at a time, one side at a time. Rollers must be completely cleaned between colors and the press is reset for the next plate.
